Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Set Up House in New Orleans

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have decided to move their family to New Orleans to help raise awareness of the city as it struggles to rebound after hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Ms Jolie confirmed in a recent interview with Us Weekly magazine, “We love it there. The kids are going to go to school there. We’re really looking forward to it.” They plan to live in a $3.5 million six-bedroom mansion in the French Quarter. Ms Jolie has reportedly recently been spotted at the restaurant Angeli on Decatur.

When not filming blockbusters such as Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Mr and Mrs Smith, Ms Jolie has devoted herself to humanitarian work and has been a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees since 2001, a role which has taken her to countries such as Sierra-Leone, Tanzania, Pakistan, Cambodia and Thailand.  In 2002, Ms Jolie adopted a young Cambodian boy, whom she named Maddox. Three years later, she adopted a daughter, Zahara, from an orphanage in Ethiopia. She then chose Namibia as the birthplace of her first child with Mr Pitt, a daughter named Shiloh, in May 2006. Even during her pregnancy, she raised eyebrows and awareness for the less fortunate by visiting the politically unstable country of Haiti in January 2006.

In New Orleans, she is now said to be interested in “befriending normal moms so she can do things with the kids”, while immersing herself in more charity work. She has apparently inquired about schooling for disadvantaged youth.

Mr Pitt, the star of films such as Ocean’s Eleven and Troy, is currently filming The Curious Case of Benjamin Button locally. He is also a passionate architecture aficionado. In 2006, he sponsored a Sustainable Design Competition in New Orleans (in partnership with Global Green USA) after hurricane-related flooding destroyed much of the city’s housing stock. The competition drew a range of innovative housing designs for the rebuilding, emphasizing energy efficiency and affordability. Mr Pitt has provided funding to build 20 homes according to the award-winning designs, and construction is reportedly underway.

With respect to their recent decision to move their family to New Orleans, despite the range of challenges faced by the city’s residents during the rebuilding process, a source close to the couple said, “They think it is important to be there right now.”

I am thrilled that Angelina and Brad have chosen to live in New Orleans. I I hope they and their family will experience all of the delights this charming city so generously has to offer to anyone who wishes to partake.
